Solving the nation’s systemic teacher shortage is not only about supporting underserved K-12 districts in effectively recruiting and training representative, local talent. It is also about addressing the longstanding challenges of retaining teachers - from pay, to representation, preparedness, professional development, and more.
To share Reach University’s approach to addressing recruitment and retention educator challenges, Reach's Chancellor, Dr. Mallory Dwinal-Palisch, joined Lyndsay Keith and Loni Coombs of Dr. Phil’s newly-launched Merit Street Media broadcast network on its live evening news hour, “The News on Merit Street.”
In drawing from experiences as both a new teacher and a principal, Dr. Dwinal-Palisch highlighted why many communities still struggle to retain teachers, the importance of affordability and career exposure in part of a teacher’s training, and how Reach’s fully job-embedded Apprenticeship Degree program is resulting in qualified, representative, and classroom-ready teachers, while also achieving higher retention in the profession.
